Art in Paris

The good thing about visiting a city already known is that we don’t need to see the main tourist attractions. I took the time in Paris to visit art museum. Starting with Pompidou Centre. I visited the Roland Barthes show. They hold his books, hobbies, car, videos with enterviews, audios… The fact of having a great area of the museum for a exhibition about Barthes, it made him a genius. What in my opinion wasn’t that much.

Since it was the “Mois de la Photo”, month of the photo, I visited the Maison Européenne de la Photographie. A show about fashion photography, another by a Cuban photographer called “Carlos Garaicoa” and a special for the South African magazine Drum.

I already had been to Paris twice, but it was in the summer. Now it is winter, cold and gray. The city has a nostalgic feeling, it is the Paris from the great photographers by the beginning of the twentieth century.

I read in the newspaper that a Brazilian contemporary dance group "O Corpo" was performing at Theatre des Champs Elysees. As I love their work, I couldn’t miss. I went to see them and I loved.

For me Paris is art. In 99 when I stayed a month in town to learn French I would go to a different museum everyday. There was always a new museum or art gallery to visit. I walked through place that were routine that time. I went window shopping at Châtelet, saw posters on the streets, books at Shakespere & Co. I waked on Jardin des Tuleries and Champs Elysees.

This five day in Paris I also visited exhibitions at Lanterna Magica, Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain . I also went to a conference in aesthetics of the communication and net.art. I end up having an overdose of art, and it made me feel good…(03.12.02)
